Balance Work and Family Life Especially During This MCOThe founder of Azon and consulting psychologist, Ms. Lee Li Li has shared about "Balance Work and Family Life, Especially During This MCO" on the Facebook live talk show invited by Voitto Education, on 11th April 2020 (Saturday), 2:00pm.

Parents are having a hard time to cope with their work and children, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. In order to deal with this situation, parents may set up a routine which includes the regular tasks that you need to do throughout the MCO period.
Why You and Your Children Need A Routine?
  • Cultivate the right mindset for parents and children. It’s important that you tell your children that “MCO is not holiday.” Parents may explain the purpose of MCO and how we could live and do work at home. We need to set clear expectations, targets or missions with your children as well.
  • A Training Programme during MCO. Parents may take this opportunity to train yourself and your children to live with a routine without any boundary or prompt to enhance self-discipline.
The 4 Important Elements of Setting Up a Routine for Yourself:
  • Set comfortable time for daily tasks E.g. What time do you want to wake up, have breakfast, etc.
  • Include short calming time/”me” time for yourself to ease your mind
  • No more office hours but be task-oriented for your office work E.g. “What are the things I need to do and how much time I should spend for each?”, “How many tasks can I complete in a day?”, etc.)
  • Have “social happy hours”E.g. chat with your friends, online conference with colleagues, catch up news etc.
Integrate Your Routine with Your Children’s Timetable
  • Integrate yours and your children’s routine. Time management is essential to create a smooth routine. E.g. you may arrange your “me” time before the children wake up to avoid interruption.
  • Identify your deep work time. Deep work time refers to work that needs your full attention without distraction. E.g. set this time when your children are having their nap or play. For those non-deep work, you may complete while accompanying or guiding your children to do their school work.
  • Seek help from spouse, other family members or elder children. E.g. Ask for help from your spouse, other family members or elder children to attend e-classes with the younger child when you’re out of hands.
  • Communicate with Your Company. E.g. If you need to take care of your children in the morning, you may discuss with your company about starting work in the noon.
  • Communicate with the School. E.g. You may discuss with the school to find solutions, such as rearrange the class time, prepare pre-recorded lessons, etc.
  • Create Fun Homework and Play Time. E.g. You may prepare some attention or cognitive training tasks, such as word puzzles, hidden objects worksheets, etc. to fill up your children’s free time. Or, you may simply arrange a play time for them!
  • Be a role model. Children learn best from their parents. If the parents are able to set good examples in following the routine, children will be able to learn and do the same.

For the weekends, parents may have your children to plan the routines. Consequently, your children are able to enhance theirplanning skills, sense of independence, time management and self-discipline along the time.
